22.05.2010 - SWARCO Raiders victorious thanks to Grein?s Record-Game against Bulls

The SWARCO Raiders have made a giant step towards the playoffs and at the same time closed a rather negative chapter in team history. On the 5th game day of the Austrian Football League (AFL), the Tyroleans set back the Salzburg Bulls 54-13 (14-0; 13-7; 13-0; 14-6). It was the first ever victory against the Salzburg Bulls.

The replay of the game will take place on Tuesday, May 25th on www.raidersTV.at. The man of the game was RB Florian Grein. The ball carrier topped out at 177 rushing yards and 5 TD on 17 carries. Never before has the two-time Eurobowl MVP cashed in 5 touchdowns in one game. Instead of Tory Cooper, Grein was in the starting lineup due to a league rule that only allows for one offensive and one defensive starter against league new-comer Salzburg. 'Flo came here today and took over the game.', said SWARCO Raiders head coach Santos Carrillo. 'We played today almost entirely with our second team and still delivered a very good game.' I'm really happy about this. Our defense had three interceptions. This game was a great chance for our younger players to show what they?ve got, and they took great advantage of this opportunity.' Leon Jackson III went 7 for 12 for 93 yards, threw a TD and an interception. WR Andreas Pröller caught 4 passes for 67 yards and a TD. The Raider Defense of the SWARCO Raiders only allowed one TD against the opposing defense, was able to pick off 3 passes and was even able to rack up a TD, through an interception return for a TD by Immo Söllner. Two weeks of rain in Salzburg leading up to Saturday's game left the field in deplorable condition. Standing water and several inches of mud on the field was cause for poor footing for all involved. Numerous times players found themselves slipping and sliding in stead of cutting and slashing. By games end, both team's colors were well hidden under several layers of the dark stuff. The Raiders now move on to a massively important game in two weeks against the Berlin Adler. The winners of this semi-final contest will move on to the Eurobowl Finale. Photo: Schellhorn
