26.06.2010 - SWARCO Raiders get to Austrian Bowl after Overtime-Thriller

Austrian Bowl XXVI is going to be a home game! After two wild overtime periods the SWARCO Raiders came out on top of the Turek Graz Giants in a roller coaster ride by the final score of 58-51. In Austrian national championship it will be the SWARCO Raiders squaring off against the Danube Dragons, who won in their semi final contest against the Raiffeisen Vikings.

The 3,000 fans at Tivoli Stadium experienced a new chapter in the impressive history of Tirol?s football, in which the Special Teams and Defensive both played deciding rolls in the final outcome of the game. 12 seconds before the end of the game Marguay Love was able to get his hands on an extra point try that sent the game into overtime. In the overtime it was Lemay Maqueira who intercepted a pass from Giant?s QB Chriss Gunn. It was Gunn's first interception in the 2010 AFL season.

'It was an unbelievable game and incredibly exciting,' states SWARCO Raiders Head Coach Santos Carrillo after the club?s 7th Austrian Bowl entry. 'The guys had a great week of practice and I just wanted them to have fun while showing everyone what we are capable of. I knew that the difference maker in this game would come down to just a couple plays. And that is just how it happened.'

'Player of the Game' was QB Leon Jackson III, who was involved with 6 TDs. He completed 19 of 24 passes for 216 yards and 5 TDs. In addition to this he had 12 carries for 79 yards and one more TD. RB Tory Cooper racked up 150 yards and a TD on 31 carries. WR Philipp heider caught 5 balls for 75 yards and 2 TDs. WR Andreas Pröller caught caught 4 passes for 60 yards and 2 TDs.

On Monday June 28th at 19:45 raidersTV will be braodcasting the replay of the SWARCO Raiders and the Turek Graz Giants on www.raidersTV.at.

All statistics and numbers aside, this was a contest that featured two teams hungry for the Austrian Bowl. In every facet of the game, the contest lived up to its expectations. It was clear from the very get go that the Raiders were not the same Raiders that took the field a mere two weeks ago. This was apparent by the Raiders ferocious 1st Qtr. that was exclamated by a blocked punt that resulted in a TD. The Giants however fought back and at the end of regulation the score board read 44 points apiece. In the end however, the Raider faithful came through, and all the hard work paid off when the nail biting ended and Gunn?s pass sailed safely into the welcome arms of Lemay Maqueira. The stadium exploded and nothing but smiles were to be seen around Tivolis Stadium.
